Last verified: 14 September 2026. Mashreq’s official guidance says a Mashreq NEO account-closure request must be placed at a Mashreq branch. Deleting an app subscription, cancelling PayPal or removing the mobile app does not close the bank account.
Before requesting closure
- Move or withdraw the remaining balance.
- Clear loans, overdrafts, card balances and pending charges.
- Cancel or move standing instructions, direct debits and salary transfers.
- Wait for card purchases, cheque deposits and transfers to settle.
- Download statements you may need later.
- Return unused cheque books or cards if the bank requests them.
How to close the account
- Contact Mashreq to confirm the nearest branch and the documents required for your account type.
- Visit the branch and place the account-closure request.
- Carry a valid Emirates ID or a valid passport with the residence-visa page, as applicable.
- Ask for written confirmation or a reference number and keep it until the closure is complete.

Possible closure fee
Mashreq’s FAQ states that closing a current or basic savings account within six months may cost AED 105 inclusive of VAT, while other listed account types may have no closure fee. Fees can change, so consult the current Schedule of Charges before submitting the request.
